Lucas Statement on Conference of Competitiveness Legislation
House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Ranking Member Frank Lucas issued a statement tonight on the announcement by Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer that the House and Senate will begin conferencing competitiveness legislation.
“I’m pleased that Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer have finally decided to move forward on legislation to improve American competitiveness,” Lucas said. “The House Science Committee has been working for more than a year to ensure America retains its position as the global leader in science and technology. We crafted thoughtful legislation to double our investments in basic research, which passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support in June. We’ve been eager to get started on conferencing it ever since, but Democratic leadership has been consumed with infrastructure and reconciliation. I’m glad they realize that taking action on competition with China is too important to continue to delay. I’m eager to hear more details on when this conference process will actually begin. I look forward to finding consensus on a bill that takes the strategic, deliberate, and targeted approach necessary to ensure America’s success for decades to come.”
