Lucas Statement on Sethuraman Panchanathan’s Confirmation as the Director of the National Science Foundation
House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Ranking Member Frank Lucas released a statement today upon the confirmation of Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan as the Director of the National Science Foundation.
“I’m glad Dr. Panchanathan’s confirmation was fast-tracked so he can begin work as soon as possible as the Director of the National Science Foundation. NSF’s work has always been critical to America’s scientific progress and technological competitiveness. Now, NSF is also supporting and funding advanced research that will help us detect, treat, and ultimately defeat COVID-19, and there’s never been a more important time for strong and smart leadership. Dr. Panchanathan’s years of experience in research and academia have prepared him for this role. I’m looking forward to working with him on our shared goal of keeping America the world leader in science and technology.”
Lucas also thanked Dr. Kelvin Droegemeier, who has served as NSF’s Acting Director since April.
“I’d like to thank Dr. Droegemeier for his great work as the Acting Director, which he took on alongside his role as the Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. He continues to provide an excellent vision for America’s scientific development.”
