Today, House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology Ranking Member Frank Lucas released the following statement on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Day of Remembrance, honoring the astronauts lost in the Apollo 1, Challenger STS-51L, and Columbia STS-107 missions to Space:
 
“On this Day of Remembrance, we honor the incredible dedication of the astronauts of Apollo 1, Challenger Mission STS-51L, and Columbia Mission STS-107. These men and women shared a passion for science and discovery and they ultimately gave their lives in service to that cause. Their lives and work touched millions of Americans and inspired generations of STEM professionals. And the knowledge and technology gleaned from their efforts continue to benefit countless lives around the world.  As we once again begin sending humans to explore the Moon, Mars, and beyond, the legacy of these astronauts has never been more important. Today, we honor them, and we celebrate the bravery and persistence required to achieve great things in space."
