House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Ranking Member Frank Lucas released a statement today on the need to provide immediate and ongoing support for the U.S. research community.
“As we address the novel coronavirus it’s never been more important to support the exceptional work done by America’s research community. Like all Americans, scientists at our universities, federal agencies, national laboratories, and other institutions are facing unfamiliar challenges right now. But their work is crucial to our efforts to battle this virus both here and abroad.
“In the days and weeks to come, I will be working with my colleagues to ensure that American scientists have the resources and support they need to contribute to this great national effort. We can and should take immediate steps to ensure research in critical areas can continue and expand. And as we move forward, we will make sure the right policies and funding are in place so we can continue the progress of science in all fields. From going to the Moon and Mars, to advancing quantum computing and developing trustworthy AI, our scientists and researchers are driving the discoveries and innovations that keep our country moving forward. I’m committed to keeping the American research enterprise the best in the world.”
