Washington D.C. – Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) today announced the Republican members selected to serve on the Committee’s five subcommittees in the 114th Congress.
Chairman Smith: “The Science Committee oversees agency budgets totaling $40 billion, much of which goes to research and development. So the Committee largely focuses on the future. In this Congress, as in the last, the Committee will have five subcommittees: Energy, Environment, Oversight, Research and Technology, and Space. Our subcommittees will continue to promote legislation that advances America’s interests in science, space, and technology.”
Chairman Smith made the announcement following a business meeting today, at which members voted to approve Committee Rules and an Oversight Plan for the 114th Congress. The rules package adopted today is consistent with House Rules and preserves the legitimate rights of the Minority. The House Parliamentarian’s office reviewed the rules to ensure they fully conform to the official rules and practices of the House. The updated rules also limit needless delay by avoiding divergence with the rules of the House. Made more clear and concise, the updated rules provide a strong but fair framework for Committee action on its important work in the new Congress.
