House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Ranking Member Frank Lucas released a statement congratulating the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project on the first ever image discovered of a black hole.
“With this image of the supermassive black hole at the center of Messier 87, the Event Horizon Telescope project has expanded our fundamental knowledge of the universe and its evolution. Along with LIGO’s discovery of gravitational waves in 2016, this discovery is compelling confirmation of Einstein’s theory of general relativity and it opens new avenues for research into the nature of space-time.
