WASHINGTON – House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) released the following statement today on the passing of former astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn.
Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas): “John Glenn embodied American bravery, becoming the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962. He, along with six other crew members, helped pioneer space flight and pave the way for space exploration for decades to come. Mr. Glenn served as an American military pilot before his first mission in space, and later became a U.S. Senator. My thoughts and prayers are with the Glenn family and the NASA community as we mourn the loss of a true hero.”
