WASHINGTON, DC – House Republican Committee Leaders today sent a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) urging her to direct the Democratic Chairmen of the committees of jurisdiction to schedule hearings on the Green New Deal.

“We urge you to direct the Chairmen of the committees of jurisdiction to hold hearings on H. Res. 109, Recognizing the Duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal. This proposal’s mandates are sweeping and will impact nearly every aspect of American life. Its stated and much-publicized goal of zero-emission energy production within ten years is just a fraction of the legislation’s full scope. It also includes programs such as federal job guarantees, free college, and government-run healthcare,” the Republican Leaders wrote.

They continued, “Taken together, we fear the Green New Deal would hurt Americans struggling to make ends meet – the very people it purports to help. Worst of all, it could permanently put the American Dream out of reach for millions of Americans. As the committees to which it has been referred, we have a responsibility to fully understand how the Green New Deal will affect the cost of living and economic mobility of hardworking Americans. We need to get to the facts, the American people deserve answers.”

The signers included:
