Washington, D.C. – Science, Space, and Technology Committee Republican Leader Frank Lucas (R-OK), Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), and Natural Resources Committee Republican Leader Rob Bishop (R-UT) released the following statement on H.R. 4447, the Clean Economy and Jobs Innovation Act.
“Don’t be fooled by its name – this bill has little to do with innovation and everything to do with House Democrats’ embrace of their high cost Green New Deal. Here we are in the middle of a global pandemic and Speaker Pelosi wants to spend more than $135 billion on a piece of legislation that will never become law and includes no serious reforms. If Democrats wanted to make real progress on clean energy, they wouldn’t have dropped a 900-page bill and called for a vote a week later, without any time for thoughtful consideration through regular order. Meanwhile, Republicans continue to come to the table with commonsense proposals that would foster innovation and maintain U.S. energy security, but none of these ideas were included. This bill is chock-full of government mandates that would raise what Americans pay for everything from the vehicles they drive to what they pay to heat, cool, and power their homes. At a time when so many families across the country are struggling, this bill includes back door bailouts for cities with outsized grant programs that leave rural communities behind. This massive package fails American consumers, plain and simple, and we encourage our colleagues to vote against it,” said Walden, Lucas, and Bishop.
